Back in those early days, I guess you could say I was a shortwave listener. Throughout my
school years, I soaked up a lot of theory, and after graduating, I jumped into an electrical
apprenticeship. Things really took off when I joined Post Office Telecommunications.
Studying for an ONC in telecommunications was my gateway into the radio realm. I took the
RAE and passed in 1982, earning my G6RRA call sign. However, with my college
commitments, I didn’t tackle the Morse test until two years later, which is when I became
G4YWD.

Secretary/Chairman

Bill Davies, G4YWD

Since then, I’ve enjoyed working across various bands and modes, whether from home,
mobile, or in portable setups. I've met so many fellow hams along the way and learned a ton
about this amazing hobby and all its potential. Every now and then, I like to dive into
constructing projects, whether I need them or just for the fun of it!

Hi there! I'm Bill, also known as G4YWD, and I serve as the Chairman/Secretary for
G3NWR, Wirral Amateur Radio Society
My journey into the world of radio began when I was just a kid, playing around with random
bits and pieces I scavenged from my dad’s garage. It was like a treasure hunt for me! The
turning point came one Christmas when I unwrapped an electronics kit from the man in the
red suit himself. This Philips kit opened up a whole new world of experiments and
possibilities.

Committee Member

"Hello, my name is Jimmy, I've been a member of the Society for 44 years. For the last 40 Years I've been privileged to act on the Committee. I've been into Radio since I was a small boy, first as a shortwave listener and hobbyist. In the mid 70's CB came along, I tried that for a while when I heard a local Radio Amateur was putting on a course for Radio Amateurs. I sat that and fortunately passed, and joined the Society in 1982."
