90 Years on the air
Wirral Amateur Radio Society celebrates our 90th year in 2026.
Established in 1936, the Wirral Amateur Radio Society has a rich history. Over the years the Society has inhabited locations across the Wirral, from Leasowe to Hooton.
We come into our 90th year at an exciting time. Recently we began construction on a new club area inside Building 27B at Hooton Park, designed by Jim G6NOI, with plans for it to be fully fitted with a classroom, Radio shack and of course a well stocked and heated lounge.
Hooton Park
Hooton Park is a former RAF base, once home to the 610 Squadron. In 2000 the Hooton Park Trust was established to restore and maintain the WW1 Hangars that dominate the site.
The site has also become home to a variety of organisations, such as the Aircraft Museum, Printing Press museum, the Wirral Model Boat Club, and of course us at the Wirral Amateur Radio Society
What are we working on?
We have recently secured our new building on the Hooton Park site, and it's all hands on deck to construct our new home!
We have also recently come into possession of multiple 4m FM Transceivers, and efforts are underway to get many of us on the air for our weekend 4m Nets.
